Personal

Born and raised in Greensboro, NC, Rodney has spent his entire life in the entrepreneurial arena.  His parents elected to leave the grind of the corporate world and start a lawn care company.  Within a few years, the company had grown to serve clients throughout southeastern North Carolina.  Soon after, they were able to achieve their ultimate dream of opening a family-style restaurant. Opening Stephanie’s Restaurant in Greensboro, the family has hosted U.S. Presidents, entertainers and athletes from across the country. They are a fixture in the triad  community and deeply value their relationships with their guests.  Rodney shares in this passion, still working at the restaurant in his free time.

“Growing up in the restaurant business, I’ve seen both sides of the industry.  I have seen my parents have to manage personal and business finances in rougher times, but I have also seen the success and freedom associated with starting your own business.  That was definitely a driving factor for me to start my financial planning practice.”

Rodney also has a love for the Greensboro community.  Through mentoring and leadership opportunities, he strives to share that love with other young people and families in the city.  Rodney is volunteer mentor in the African-American Male Initiative, a United Way program working weekly with his mentee on the values of leadership and personal development.  Through the Junior Achievement Program, Rodney had the opportunity to be a “Teacher for a Day”, going to a local elementary school to coach students on budgeting, saving money, and economic development. Rodney also recently completed a year long program with other emerging leaders in the community called Leadership Greensboro.  There, he helped organize a food drive with a local non-profit to tackle hunger in the triad community.

When not at work and volunteering in the community, Rodney enjoys spending time with his parents and two younger siblings.  Although all three children are grown and out of the house, the family cherishes their time together, enjoying vacations and Monday night dinners.

Rodney is passionate about serving his community. If you are interested in getting involved in any of the organizations below, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

African American Male Initiative (AAMI)

Our work in conjunction with the United Way is to serve as mentors for young men in the public-school system. As mentors, we work with these young men 1-on-1 each week, encouraging their success as students, athletes, and upstanding men in our community.

A Simple Gesture

Through our Northwestern Mutual family’s partnership with this local non-profit, we organized a food drive that donated hundreds of pounds of food to help tackle food insecurity in the Triad.

Junior Achievement: Teacher for a Day

As part of the Teacher for a Day program with Junior Achievement, Rodney had the opportunity to teach financial literacy and community involvement in a local elementary school class. During their time together, the class explored the inner-workings of our city and how each person plays a pivotal role in being a good neighbor.

Leadership Greensboro

This year-long program enables future leaders of Greensboro through insightful education in the areas of entrepreneurship, government, healthcare, education and diversity. The graduates of the program commit to making Greensboro an outstanding place to live, work and grow.
